A group of 120 young people from Barra Mansa and Resende who participate in the Futuro em Nossas Mãos project will receive in July 29 and 30, respectively, their Senai certification for the courses on industrial maintenance mechanics, basis notions of welding and management practices for the market. The program is an endeavor by Votorantim Siderurgia, developed in partnership with Instituto Votorantim, which started in 2006 and has already graduated around 250 young people in several technical courses focused on the industrial and management areas.

The differential of the Futuro em Nossas Mãos project is that it takes advantage of Votorantim Siderurgia’s productive chain to create an employment network which effectively opens up job opportunity for young people graduated in the capacitating courses. Students are between 18 and 29 years old, have finished, at least, elementary school, have an average family income of half the Brazilian minimum wage and are unemployed or looking for their first jobs.

Aiming at developing in these young people the different skills and competences required by the market, the courses programs include from norms and procedures related to work quality and safety to classes on ethics and citizenship. The objective is to offer a technical and a human preparation which shall effectively contribute to give these young people support to get their first jobs.

The graduation ceremony of the Resende group shall take place on July 29, in the Event Hall of Sesi/Senai. Meanwhile, the graduation ceremony of the Barra Mansa group shall take place on July 29, in the Event Hall of Sesi/Senai of the city. There will be 60 students in Resende and other 60 in Barra Mansa graduating in 3 different courses: basis notions of welding, industrial maintenance mechanics, and management practices for the market.

The 2010 Best and Biggest Edition of Exame magazine has fantastic news for Votorantim Group. VS, the newest company of the Group, in its second year of activity, reached the second place among the top 100 steel and metal companies in the country.

The magazine annually edits the top 100 ranking of the best and biggest companies in the country, including 10 sectors of activities. Exame magazine is a national and global reference for Brazilian economy and business environment in the country.

“We have fought the global crisis with audacity and focused on our business. By being in the second place in the top companies ranking, we are showing that our teams are committed to offer our clients the best product, in shortest time and with the best negotiation. It is rewarding to find that our results are a consequence of the work at each Unit and that we are being recognized for it,” celebrates Albano Vieira, VS’s general manager.

Companies are evaluated by means of a set of criteria defined together with Fipecafi (Institute Foundation of Accountancy, Actuarial and Finance Research of the University of São Paulo). The performance of the companies is assessed based on a comparison of the results obtained in terms of growth, profitability, financial health, market share and productivity by employee. Each criterion has a specific weight and at the end all grades are put together, showing the winners for each category.

To produce the rank, Exame magazine has assessed data from over three thousand companies. All of them have published their financial statements in the Official State Government Gazette, are public companies or have sent their results for analysis by Best and Biggest.

Votorantim Siderurgia, in another year of partnership with Barra Mansa City Hall and the Retail Management Chamber, is sponsoring Flumisul (International Business Fair of Southern Rio de Janeiro). The event will take place between July 27 and 31 in the Exhibition Park of Barra Mansa.

Besides sponsoring the event, Votorantim Siderurgia is also one of the main exhibitors. For this edition, the company has prepared an ample and inviting 60m2 booth including products of Votoraço line. The idea is that visitors can enter, walk around and learn about the company. The booth will also have a caricaturist making funny pictures of visitors.

The purpose of the fair is to stimulate the development of the city, expanding business in the zone and attracting investments. There are around 250 exhibitors including companies of different sectors from Southern Rio de Janeiro State and from other cities and states.

“Votorantim Siderurgia participates in Flumisul since its first edition, because it knows how important this event is for this region. This is always a great opportunity to meet partners and friends and to reassure our commitment with the development of Barra Mansa,” says Sérvio Túlio Antunes, General Manager of the Barra Mansa Unit of Votorantim Siderurgia.

VS closed another contract with JHSF Incorporações in November, this time in Salvador, to build the biggest enterprise in Bahia: the Horto Bela Vista. The same incorporator contracted VS in the first half of 2009 for the Parque Cidade Jardim complex, in São Paulo.

"Earth-moving for the Project began in December and we are going to start supplying steel in January", informs Daniel Silveira, the sales manager.

The Horto Bela Vista is close to downtown Salvador and will occupy an area of 320 thousand square meters. According to JHSF, it will comprise 19 residential towers, four commercial blocks, the Bela Vista Shopping Center, a hotel, schools, a club, convention center and other facilities.
